With the help of a new member, we are actively working on the TYPO3 Content Blocks Core patch for v13. The team has also undergone changes in the leadership.

The Structured Content Initiative is the Strategic Initiative focused on improving the content editing user experience in TYPO3 CMS. Read our last update to learn more about what we’ve been working on.

Content Blocks in TYPO3 v12

Sadly, our patch to bring the Content Blocks into TYPO3 was not merged into v12. The reason being that we were impacted by architectural changes made in the Core, in preparation for v13. We didn’t want to bring in yet another area which would soon become deprecated, and thus, decided to rebuild our approach to match the new architecture. Understandably, this took a lot of time, which meant we lacked time for a detailed review in the end. As stated shortly before the v12 LTS release at the TYPO3 Camp Mitteldeutschland: Our main goal is to make it right—not quick and dirty.”

Therefore, we jumped right into re-introducing our patch for v13 after the LTS release of v12. The reason why there isn’t yet a Content Blocks release for TER for v12 is that the Core patch needs to be merged first. Until then, there could be breaking changes, we'd have to backport to the TER release, and that might cause inconvenience among our users.

Membership Changes

Welcome Manuel Schnabel!

At the end of last year, we welcomed Manuel Schnabel to our team as an active member. Manuel has worked extensively with TYPO3 for a couple of years, and is the author of the extension AI SEO Helper. A few words from Manuel:

“I've been following the Structured Content Initiative and its work with interest for a long time because I'm in close contact with Andre Kraus. Now I am happy to be able to actively support the team in the implementation and further development of the content blocks. At this point I would also like to give a big compliment to the team, who made it really easy for me to settle in.”

Leadership Changes

  • André Kraus is the new lead of the Structured Content Initiative

  • Lidia Demin becomes a silent member

So much has happened since we started the Structured Content Initiative back in 2019: Some new members came, some left, but our core team kept its dedication to our vision. But change is inevitable, and thus, we say goodbye to Lidia Demin as our team lead, who is going to address new challenges in her personal life. As one of the founders of our initiative, she will remain a silent member and support us, if possible. Lidia has been heavily involved in the conceptual work of our Content Blocks, and transferred it into detailed documentation. Now that our patch is basically merge-ready, our work takes on a more development-driven character. So, the release of TYPO3 v12 was the right time for our former co-lead and one of our leading developers André Kraus to take over the leadership responsibility.

A few words from Lidia (aka Liddy):

“We came a long way with our initiative, and - though it hasn’t always been easy - I am very proud of what we have achieved, and it pains me to leave. But, we must all look forward, even if this means to dive into the unknown. I don’t know what the future will hold for me, but I would be happy to, some day, maybe return to working with TYPO3 in daily business.

Despite the fact that I actually became a backend developer by accident, it has been a great pleasure to work with TYPO3 and its great community! Though I’m not leaving the community entirely, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who encouraged me in the context of TYPO3 over the past 7 years. Thank you for your advice and mentoring, for encouraging me as a speaker, for the opportunities to participate in all the great TYPO3 events - for making me the developer I am!”
