The TYPO3 Localization Team has been busy during the first half of 2025, focusing on expanding the global reach of TYPO3, improving our tools, and growing our team. Through our six monthly meetings, we've pushed several initiatives forward.

Here’s a summary of our recent activities and a look at what’s ahead.

Highlights from the First Half of 2025

Our primary goal is to make TYPO3 accessible to as many people as possible in their native language. The first six months of the year were marked by significant progress in technical development, community outreach, and team building.

  • Technical Refinements: We have continued to fine-tune the Crowdin (crowdin) extension, improving the workflow for all translators and developers involved in the localization process. This extension enables you to start translation right from your TYPO3 backend. Thus you always have the right context of the labels you translate.

  • Expanding to New Languages: We are excited to be in contact with Joshua Honnes from the Department of ICT of the Papua New Guinea government to explore a Tok Pisin translation of the TYPO3 backend. Additionally, we have been in touch with Christian Dölker regarding an Albanian translation. For Albanian the first steps of translation have been done and the 25% mark has been reached.

  • Major Translation Milestone: A huge thank you goes to Martin Pribyl for his incredible and continuous effort in translating TYPO3 into Czech. He is very close to completing the entire translation, which is a fantastic achievement for the Czech-speaking community!

  • Welcome to New Team Members: We are thrilled to welcome two new members to the localization team: Chris Müller and Steffen Matthes. Their expertise and enthusiasm are a great asset to our community.

  • Exploring AI in Localization: The team provided feedback to Sanjay Chauhan regarding a budget request for a new, AI-powered extension designed to translate XLIFF files.

  • Team Leadership Change: We want to thank Abdulhamid Kwieder for his dedication and contributions as co-team lead. Hamid has stepped down due to personal reasons, and we wish him all the best and hope to see him back in the community soon.

Our Goals for the Second Half of 2025

We plan to build on this momentum for the remainder of the year with a strong focus on community engagement and collaboration.

  • Strengthening the Community: We will be getting in touch with all active translators and proofreaders on the TYPO3 Crowdin Project to offer support, gather feedback, and revive community engagement.

  • Event Participation: The team plans to participate in the TYPO3 Community Sprint in Düsseldorf, Germany, this November. We also aim to have a presence at as many TYPO3 Camps as possible to connect with the community in person.

We are always looking for more volunteers to help translate TYPO3. If you are interested in contributing to a language, please get in touch with us! No technical knowledge required!
