Regular Open Sprints

Get more done together in open source. In the TYPO3 community, we recommend working together in regular open sprints. This concept was introduced in 2019 by the TYPO3 Association.

The idea behind "combined sprints"

In the past every team had its own (mostly invite-only) sprints. But for many projects, bringing teams to work together is more effective. For example to work on the typo3.org website: the design team, server team and the website team harmonize well. So that's why we encourage teams to organize combined sprints towards shared goals. And even when teams are working on different projects, being in the same space at the same time helps teams mingle, share ideas, and participants can meet new people.

Goals

  1. Help teams to meet at one location and join forces.
  2. Provide a location and accommodation for teams from the regular open sprint budget.
  3. Make it easier for interested community members to get involved - onboard them when they want to sneak into a team.

Teams can prepare collaborative agendas for regular open sprints, but they can also just share a sprint location. Even when they aren't directly working on the same project, they can get together and share the same space. It is always inspiring when people see what other teams are doing. It's a great way to get new ideas and creative solutions. And of course, these kind of sprints are also open for everyone who wants to contribute to the project. For example, to improve documentation, create content, create a patch, do a review, and to meet others in the community.

The TYPO3 Community Code Sprint for all TYPO3 community teams, initiatives, and those invited by them. All TYPO3 teams are invited to join us in our office in Düsseldorf for our on-location TYPO3 Sprint.

We — the TYPO3 GmbH — will take care of your hotel costs and provide the location. You — the participants — bring your topics, motivation, and high spirits, and together we will work on moving TYPO3 forward.

Please note: Travel costs (train, plane, car) will need to be reimbursed against the teams' budgets — please clarify the rules for that with your team leaders.

Build the Future Together!

Have you ever been to Switzerland? This October, you can be part of five days of high-impact TYPO3 development in Geneva, helping shape the future of TYPO3 v14!

27–31 October 2025 we’re bringing together passionate TYPO3 developers in Geneva — nestled between the Alps and Lake Geneva, Switzerland — for an intensive five-day Code Sprint focused on building amazing new features for TYPO3 v14. It’s your chance to directly influence the next major release, collaborate with fellow community members who share your passion for great software, and get inspired by one of Europe’s most beautiful and innovative settings.

The Perfect Setup

Thanks to François Suter and Roberto Presedo, as well as their employer, Ideative, for sponsoring their team’s time, organizing the sprint, and providing top-notch facilities that will keep everyone productive and motivated.

Mentorship: Benni Mack and Oli Bartsch

Work directly with experienced core team members who’ll guide you through the development process, provide instant feedback on your code, and help ensure your contributions integrate smoothly into TYPO3 v14.

Whether you’re a seasoned contributor or new to core development, you’ll have expert support every step of the way, enjoy shared lunches to exchange ideas and connect with fellow developers, and benefit from a collaborative atmosphere that encourages feedback and inspiration. On the final day, you can optionally showcase your achievements and share what you’ve built.

Why You Should Join

  • Direct impact on TYPO3 v14's feature set
  • Learning from experienced core developers
  • Networking with passionate community members
  • Contributing to the project you love
  • Experiencing Geneva's beautiful setting and vibrant atmosphere
  • See your work integrated into TYPO3 and used worldwide

What We'll Build

We’ll focus on the roadmap features we’ve collectively defined for v14, but if you have a great feature idea that could make TYPO3 even better, bring it along — we’re looking for contributions that can be completed during the sprint or reach a solid foundation for smooth integration afterward.

Who Should Join?

  • TypeScript experts, excited about improving user experience
  • Security enthusiasts, wanting to contribute to enterprise-grade security
  • PHP Developers, interested in modernizing TYPO3's code base
  • Anyone passionate about TYPO3 and ready to dive into collaborative coding. No specific skills required — just enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and a desire to make TYPO3 even better.
