On the first Monday in September, it was time again for our Remote Day. The Best Practice Team and interested developers met to work together, exchange experiences, and learn new things. This time, Bernd, Eike, Daniel, and Oli got together.

We focused on some long-standing issues with the Tea example (tea) extension, TYPO3 v13 compatibility, and transitioning some Unit tests to Functional tests.

About the Best Practices Team

The Best Practices Team currently provides the Tea example (tea) extension, which serves as an example on how to write an Extbase extension following best practices. The main focus is on automated tooling for higher quality. This involves testing, static code analysis, CI and more. The long goal is to attract more people to join the team and also focus on other best practice areas.

Let's Get Started

We started right on time at 11:00. We began with a team check-in to gauge how everyone was feeling before diving into the tasks ahead. Bernd was a little annoyed because he was having problems with his headset and Slack, but he was still looking forward to seeing everyone and coding. The relaxed Oli was a little tired at the beginning but excited. Eike felt a little sick and overworked because he had a live launch over the weekend. Daniel had a concert over the weekend and was accordingly exhausted, but he started the day motivated and happy.

At Work

Then we discussed the goals and distributed the individual tasks.

Daniel continued working on migrating the unit tests to functional tests, Eike took on the runTests.sh script and built in the debugging option, Oli further improved the code quality, and Bernd continued working on the prerequisites for TYPO3 v13.

A Day Well Spent

We got a lot done. All in all, we closed 16 tickets.

Oli was exhausted but satisfied, and in a holiday mood. Daniel was exhausted but happy to have accomplished so much, Eike was quite satisfied with the day, and Bernd was glad to have gotten something done.

Acknowledgements

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Codappix GmbH for sponsoring Daniel's time and undkonsorten GbR for sponsoring Eike's time.
