Web Camp Venlo 2023 spanned three days, each with a different focus, catering to a particular audience and with specific intentions. While the first day was entirely devoted to deep-dives on technical developer topics, the second day catered more to the business side of things with talks from different industry experts. The event concluded with a barcamp-style day offering a wide range of topics directly from the participants.

All sessions from Friday and Saturday were live streamed and recorded. You can watch them from the comfort of your own home on the TYPO3 Web Camp Venlo YouTube channel, @typo3campvenlo

Thursday, 9 March 2023

Web Camp Venlo started on Thursday, 9 March 2023 with all-day workshops covering the following topics:

  • Test Driven Development, Domain Driven Development & Teamwork by Pim Elshoff
  • Introduction to TYPO3 Headless Development by Adam Marcinkowski and Łukasz Uznanski

The workshops were more than just a simple success with several of the participants raving about them for the entire weekend. But after a long day of intense workshops, it was time to get to know all the participants during the pre-party at Café Central. Lots of locally brewed beers and yummy food later, some initial connections had been made and everyone was ready to start the camp!

Friday, 10 March 2023

Web Camp Venlo took place in the utterly beautiful location of Domani. After registering and taking the first sips of hot coffee, it was time to get started. Over 100 participants were warmly welcomed by organizers (and sponsors), Edward Lenssen and Patrick Broens, who were guiding everyone through the program for the day.

The participants also included several students from Fontys University in Venlo who took the time out of their busy schedules to get to know our wonderful project and community!

First up was a heartfelt presentation on the last 25 years of TYPO3 by Daniel Fau and Benjamin Kott. Following a short recap of what has changed in the past year (among other things, that the Core development is now 100% funded by TYPO3 GmbH), we also got an outlook for 2023. Another topic of their talk was of course the upcoming TYPO3 version 12.4 LTS, which will be released on 25 April 2023. Also, this year there will finally be an official T3CON, including TYPO3 Awards, in October (get your evening gowns out of the basement already)!

In essence, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for each and every person who contributes to the project with time, expertise and money. Now it’s time to secure and stabilize the project in order to hand it over to the next generation!

What followed was a variety of interesting talks on communication (and its impact on successful projects), teamwork, as well as different tools and software to make your life just a little bit more comfortable. You can view the complete program of Web Camp Venlo 2023.

Friday concluded with a delicious buffet dinner at the venue along with lots of networking and socializing.

Saturday, 11 March 2023

In true barcamp fashion, Saturday started with the joint session planning for the day. Again, there was something for everyone. From deeply technical insights and show-and-tells, to business and marketing topics and more lighthearted discussion rounds—there was something for every single attendee to take away from this weekend.

I personally really enjoyed my first Web Camp Venlo, and most definitely recommend that everyone experience a non-exclusively-German TYPO3 Camp at least once. (And definitely try the bitterballen if you have the chance to). I’ll be back next year! Thank you to the organizers and sponsors who enabled this beautiful camp!

Get ready for the 2024 edition and grab your early-bird tickets.  See you next year 29 February–2 March 2024!
