As Florian Thiele mentioned in his article on November 20, the Documentation Team began our work on making the TYPO3 documentation experience more accessible and user-friendly. As a result, the TYPO3 documentation now supports writing your documentation in Markdown, a light-weight alternative to the more powerful reStructuredText (ReST) format.
Easy Migration From Markdown to reStructuredText
We are also thrilled to announce that the process enabling you to migrate from Markdown to ReST, has now been fully implemented and refined. This breakthrough makes it even easier for contributors to choose their preferred format. The migration tool allows you to switch to ReST whenever needed.
If you started with Markdown and want to migrate, you can now find how in our manual Migration: Markdown to reStructuredText (ReST).
New Command to Kickstart Documentation
To make it easier for extension developers to get started with the TYPO3 documentation tooling, we added a new init command. It provides a simple wizard to set up your project documentation. Read more in How to Kickstart Extension Documentation With ReST or Markdown.
TYPO3's documentation ecosystem is robust, relying on the extensive capabilities of ReST. However, we recognize that its steep learning curve can deter potential contributors. If you are new to Markdown you can check out our Markdown Cheat Sheet, which will give you a nice overview of the possibilities.
