The Documentation Team is Looking for Superheroes

Three people stand smiling in front of a large TYPO3 logo on a wall, flanked by three superhero cardboard cutouts, in a brightly lit room with an orange floor.
This could be you! Garvin Hicking, Lina Wolf, and Sarah McCarthy — current superheroes of the Documentation Team.
Clear, reliable documentation empowers users, welcomes newcomers, and ensures long-term success. The TYPO3 Documentation Team is calling on community members to help improve and expand the docs. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

The Foundation of Our Community

Good software documentation is essential because it supports knowledge sharing across the community. When it’s clear and reliable, it lowers the barrier for new users and helps the community grow. It also deepens the skills of existing users, making them more independent and confident. High quality documentation is therefore essential for the overall success of TYPO3.

TYPO3 is open source software, so writing documentation is the responsibility of the community. The TYPO3 Documentation Team coordinates contributions and maintains the docs, but the team is small — and there’s always more to do.

We Need Your Help

We urgently need more contributors! If you’ve ever read the TYPO3 Documentation and thought something didn’t look quite right or that it could have been written in a more helpful way, please consider contributing. You can make language corrections or code corrections. We’re grateful for any contributions, however small.

What We’re Working on

During the year the Documentation Team focuses on specific projects. At the moment we’re working on:

  • How to build extensions
  • Deploying and running TYPO3 in Docker
  • Clarifying Classic and Composer mode

We’re also improving the ViewHelper Reference to make it more accessible to integrators as well as developers. Any help from integrators experienced in Fluid would be particularly appreciated for this.

Ways to Contribute

If you’d like to contribute but don’t know how, an easy way to start is to use the Edit on GitHub button at the top right-hand corner of any documentation page. It will fork the repository. After editing, add a comment and save to complete the commit. The Documentation Team will check any changes you make — so don’t worry about breaking anything. You can also see our comprehensive contributor’s guide, How to Document TYPO3.

Get Involved

The Documentation Team holds a monthly huddle in the #typo3-documentation Slack channel. We also host live documentation sessions where anyone can join in and help. We’d love to see you there!
