Event recap: TYPO3 Camp London 2025

Categories: Event Report, Community Created by Tom Warwick
On 7th October, both new and familiar faces got together for the UK’s first-ever TYPO3 event. TYPO3 Camp London took place in Covent Garden in Central London.

Hosted by MSQ & UDG, this one day event was all about bringing the UK community together to share ideas, best practices, and also meet the wider TYPO3 community.

Monday night: unpack and unwind

With everyone travelling to the event from various parts of the UK, Europe and the USA, the pre-social event was a well deserved opportunity for everyone to enjoy some fish & chips followed by a pint of Irish stout.

Tuesday: The big day

On Tuesday morning, I had the privilege of welcoming everyone to the event. I started the day with my opening presentation which was an in-depth view into a TYPO3 project I worked on in 2014. It’s a talk I’ve wanted to give for almost eleven years and I’m really pleased with its reception.

Next up was Benni Mack whose talk was centered around the idea of “investing in people and not licenses”. You can find out more about Benni’s talk on the B13 blog.

After our first two talks it was time for a break: tea & Welsh cakes were on the menu.

After a short break, TYPO3 Board Member and Head of Architecture for Mittwald Martin Helmich talked us through what is required to run TYPO3 as a cloud native application. I was grateful for Martin giving this talk as I think it serves as a perfect introduction for those who are looking to host TYPO3 on popular cloud platforms. While the talk was highly technical, Martin did a fantastic job outlining the advantages and challenges that are involved.

Next, Owen Priestely talked about how his agency Liquid Light pitches TYPO3 to customers in a market where we are virtually unknown and how they emphasise experience of technology.

An extended lunch break followed and it was so great to see people from different organisations talking to one another over some great food. Thank you Sarah Green catering!

Our guest speaker, Ruth Cheesley from Mautic, talked about digital sovereignty and how it applies to the marketing tools organisations use. This was a really polished presentation and we’re excited to see Ruth talk at T3CON later this year.

After we’d enjoyed some coffee and jam scones with lots of clotted cream, Mathias Bolt Lesniak gave us a preview of the recently launched step-by-step guides project which is designed to help onboard juniors at greater speed.

To finish off the day, Daniel Fau from the TYPO3 company gave us some insight from the German Government Site Builder project (GSB11) and also provided us with a wider update on what is happening in the broader TYPO3 community.

Social Night

After we said our good-byes and enjoyed a very short power nap in our hotel rooms, we joined each other for some Indian food and more Irish stout.

A big thank you to our sponsors

We wanted to make this event accessible and affordable. To do this we need to keep ticket prices as low as possible while still offering attendees some great food and swag. We could only have done that with the help from our two event sponsors. Digital Zombies and +Pluswerk. Without their contributions it couldn't have happened and we’re incredibly grateful.

Next steps

Between working with university students in south Wales, to attending government conferences and developer events, this will be the fifth event where TYPO3 has had a presence in the UK. Looking to the future, you can expect to see us at Gov Camp Wales in November 2025 and PHPUK in February 2026.

As for another UK camp next year? Stay tuned ;)
