Daniel Bruessler is dead

Long-time Documentation Team leader Daniel Brüßler died in a car accident back in June.

In this day and age of instant information it may seem surprising that this sad news took so long to reach us. However Daniel was a rather shy person and not much filtered from him. I had written him several mails in the last few months, without receiving any answers. I hoped it was just some temporary problem, but alas it was not so.

Daniel Brüßler had been caring for the TYPO3 documentation for ages. When I joined the community back in 2004, he was already maintaining the wiki and providing extension authors with a documentation template. He never wrote much about what he did and it was easy to overlook his role in the community. He may have worked in the shadows, but the shadows will be darker without him. Daniel was very religious. He believed in God and he aligned much in his life on the words of the Bible.

Daniel was a faithful and reliable person and he will be missed. I met him for the first time in real life last year - during the TYPO3 Conference - and I'm sad to think that this will be the last.

I would like to express my condolences to his family and friends, however belatedly.

Daniel, thanks for having been part of our community and of the spirit of sharing that underlies open source communities. You were a believer, I trust that you are now in a happy place. Fare well.

PS: thanks to Christopher for finally finding out what had happened to Daniel and for his help in writing this obituary.
