sign code sprint in Frankfurt at dkd
From 18th to 20th of January our team met in Frankfurt at the DKD office. For some of the participants, the urban life of Frankfurt was an adventure in itself. This was the first sprint in 2018 and the eight sprint for the typo3.org relaunch project. The countdown for launch has now started. The sprint was well-attended. Especially welcome was the four-person front-end development and testing team from Ukraine.

new.typo3.org will soon launch as a public beta and testing ground for the new typo3.org website. Our focus at this sprint was to improve the layouts. Yaroslav Trach, Myroslav Lutsiv, Christian Knauf, Tomas Norre Mikkelsen, Miro Olma and Axel Müller worked on

  • Migrating Multicontent to Gridelements,
  • Integrating the SEO extension,
  • Improving the design of the search results page,
  • Adding padding and alignments,
  • Improving the login link on mobile devices,
  • Setting up backend user rights and cleaning up the backend, and
  • Adding documentation for permission concepts and an editors’ guide.

We completed 38 merge requests and closed 54 tickets.

extensions.typo3.org: Tomas Norre Mikkelsen and Thomas Löffler improved the extension repository, for example completing a new login screen, which you will be able to enjoy after the next release.

my.typo3.org: Stefan Busemann created the user profile page of the new user hub. The page allows users to configure privacy settings for their information.

Content: Marco Seiler and Mathias Bolt Lesniak continued their work on the content, rewriting the remaining pages and completing basic proofreading. The two started improving the content layout, and they continued the SEO work, adding more meta descriptions, writing custom page titles, and raising the keyword prominence of important pages.

Testing: Olena Bulat tested the pages and provided a lot of valuable feedback, enabling us to so continue our work. ;-)

Design and front-end development: Harry Glatz, Jan Michael Löw, and Tanya Nosenko continued to improve our design and frontend processes. This is currently one of the most challenging tasks. We are receiving code from many different developers (a  good thing!), but need to find a way to standardize and avoid quality issues.

Next steps: Our roadmap for the final launch is set up. We aim for two more sprints, launching the new typo3.org in the second quarter of 2018.

Stay tuned: new.typo3.org will be launched soon, alongside the current typo3.org. And finally: Many thanks to dkd for hosting our sprint and providing us with a lot of coffee and beverages.
