In early May, over 30 TYPO3 community members from across Europe gathered on the island of Fuerteventura for a week full of coding, learning, and unforgettable moments. For the second time, the TYPO3 Surfcamp brought together developers, marketers, and mentors to collaborate on new extensions and resources for TYPO3 – all while enjoying the sun, the waves, and the vibrant community spirit.

From daily project work and surf sessions to evening lightning talks and social activities, the week offered the perfect balance of focus, fun, and teamwork. We – Annika and Robin from the Marketing team – were lucky enough to be part of this experience and are excited to share some insights and highlights.

What the teams worked on

What started long ago as the FC Bigfeet project was revived and reimagined in 2024 as FC Bigfoot – and in 2025, it brought together seven dedicated teams, each contributing something unique to the TYPO3 ecosystem.

Here’s what the teams worked on and how you can join them (these projects didn’t end at the beach – they’re ready for you from anywhere in the TYPO3 community):

  • Restaurant Toolbox
A flexible solution with table reservations, digital menus, and configurable opening hours – perfect for hospitality businesses.

Inside our week – and onto the TYPO3Camp stage

The daily routine combined work and fun in the perfect mix. Mornings started with team dailies and mentor check-ins, followed by plenty of Dev Time – a block where everyone worked on their projects. But the program wasn’t all about coding: in true Surfcamp spirit, we had the chance to swap our laptops for surfboards several times throughout the week. Thanks to the local surf instructors, even the absolute beginners among us managed to catch a wave or two!

The evenings were packed with coding sessions, lightning talks on topics like Playwright, UX challenges, and data handling, as well as a Coding Night. On Wednesday, we even had a Beach Party and a wonderful Closing Dinner with all participants on Friday.

A special highlight was our first Coding Night, where we worked on real Core issues. On Wednesday, we celebrated together with a Beach Party – being together by the sea with music, sunshine, and plenty of good vibes. And to wrap up an unforgettable week, we came together for a heartfelt Closing Dinner on Friday evening, celebrating the projects, the progress – and most of all, the community we built.

Saturday was when one of the true highlights of the week took place. We had the chance to present our results live as the official keynote at TYPO3Camp Vienna – right from Fuerteventura. Sharing what we had achieved and learned was a really exciting moment and made us realize just how connected the TYPO3 community is, no matter the distance.

From Fuerteventura to the future

The TYPO3 Surfcamp 2025 was a week of collaboration, learning, and building real connections – on and off the surfboard. We are proud to have contributed to the TYPO3 project in such a unique setting and grateful for the chance to meet so many inspiring people from the community.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible – from the organizers and mentors to every participant who brought their energy, expertise, and team spirit. See you again at one of the upcoming TYPO3 events!
