What Goes Into Writing a Single Certification Question?
Ten questions in two days might not sound like much at first. But what kind of work actually goes into creating a single question?
It’s not just about coming up with questions but also formulating answers — both correct and incorrect ones. The challenge with incorrect answers is that they mustn’t be too obviously wrong.
Testing, Verifying, and Diversifying the Pool
We also reviewed every code snippet for accuracy, correct functionality, and more, always referring to the official documentation. Everything is tested in both a Composer-based and a legacy installation.
We also have to ensure that we cover a variety of topics. After all, we can’t have 90% of the questions focusing on TypoScript. Security, templating, backend configuration, and much more are also important aspects.
Focusing on TYPO3 v13’s Latest Features
Over the past few months, we reviewed the existing question pool for compatibility with TYPO3 v13 and updated the syllabus on SkillDisplay. That’s why the focus during these two days was on creating new questions specifically about the latest features in v13.
Gratitude, Good Company, and What’s Next
Of course, hard work deserves some reward! So, we explored a few restaurants — including a Bavarian Bräuhaus. Turns out, you have to travel to Thuringia to find good beer.
A big thank you to the team at dreistrom.land AG for providing us with a space, coffee, drinks, and for putting up with us!
Now, we’re looking forward to the TYPO3 User Day and TYPO3camp Mitteldeutschland in Jena.
Ten new questions for v13 — did we achieve our goal? No — we exceeded it! We created 23 new questions and came up with many more ideas for future ones.
Best regards from Jena,
