TYPO3 Community January 2013

Categories: Community Created by ben van 't ende
At the beginning of 2013 the Expert Advisory Board decided about the budget and gave an explanation about the allocation of the budgets for 2013. The budget allocation for the Neos project was re-discussed after initially being rejected by the team. A solution was found by allocating budget to work-packages that will drive the development of TYPO3 Neos.

TYPO3 CMS 6.1 - Improve

After the major release of TYPO3 CMS 6.0 and hard work that was done for the release the release team geared down a bit. Benni Mack took over the position of release manager from Helmut Hummel. The base tone for the 6.1 release will be ‘Improve’. The goal will be to improve in any kind of way, not just code-wise. Improve the communication, improve the contributions, improve the product. Starting this year the team picked up on the weekly release team meetings again and is working towards the release of TYPO3 CMS 6.1 on April 30. Flow and Neos

Robert Lemke worked on a blog plugin for Neos and this now powers his <link http: robertlemke.com en blog posts blog-powered-by-typo3-neos.html>blog. As Robert mentions in his blog entry this plug-in shows the powerful rendering mechanism of TypoScript 2 and Fluid to work. As more websites get Neos powered, documentation is also coming your way. Documentation for Flow and Neos is evolving with great support from the documentation team. Work on a Neos Integrator Guide has started. You will be able to find all Neos and Flow related documents on <link http: docs.typo3.org>docs.typo3.org. Work for Flow comprised custom configuration files, a uniqueness validator, CDN support for Rackspace and of course the usual bugfixing. Explanation of the T3A 2013 budget

2013 is the first year that the Expert Advisory Board deals with the budget. This time the process was fully transparent and the budgets were published and discussed online. The members of the TYPO3 Association also had the chance to vote on the budgets in a poll. 204 of the roughly 800 members (25%) took part in the poll. Based on the input of these TYPO3 Associations members the EAB discussed each budget application in detail on the 8th and 9th of January 2013. The EAB contacted some of the budget applicants to clarify questions and discuss alternatives. The <link news article explanation-of-the-t3a-2013-budget>result of the budget allocation is a balance between continuity and renewment. Google Summer of Code preparations

GSoC is a program by Google to fund OpenSource projects, like TYPO3, by enabling student developers to contribute to OpenSource projects over a three month period. The GSoC team is currently collecting ideas for projects from the community. A <link http: wiki.typo3.org gsoc2013>wiki page has been set  up to collect these ideas.  There is a pretty good collection of ideas for TYPO3 CMS, but we still need some entries for Flow and Neos. The application period for projects to GSoC will start at 18th of March. The closing date is March 29. If you have an idea for Google Summer of Code then head over to the <link http: wiki.typo3.org gsoc2013 ideas>GSoC Ideas page and submit your idea.
