The CMS team is happy to be heading to the last month of development for the TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS release before feature freeze.
TYPO3 CMS 6.2 beta1 will be released on September, 3rd. This will mark the start of the feature freeze phase in our development. This means that August is the last month to get features into the Core. Refer to the <link http: forge.typo3.org projects typo3cms-v62 wiki>Release Plan for an overview of all dates concerning this release.
In order to "get things done", several activities are planned:
FAL Code Sprint
One of the important topics for the 6.2 LTS release will be a more stabilized File Abstraction Layer. There are lots of known issue to fix, APIs to improve, use-cases to go through. To focus on these topics, while also thinking about the migration from 4.5 with DAM to 6.2 with FAL we will be having a dedicated FAL Code Sprint:
Extbase Workspaces Sprint
The integrated MVC framework Extbase deserves some special attention in the sprint in Stuttgart, dedicated exclusively to brainstorm and finalize the working of Extbase together with Workspaces. The goal is to finally allow consistent read access to workspace datasets.
- When? August 15th to 18th, 2013 (Thursday to Sunday)
- Where? Stuttgart

TYPO3 Smooth Migration Agency Sprint
A "hot topic" around the release of the second LTS (long term support) version of TYPO3 will be the migration of sites from the first LTS version (4.5). To gather more complex scenarios, we need more insight into bigger agency projects. The CMS Team will host a sprint dedicated to agencies upgrading their installations from 4.5 to 6.2. This will allow the TYPO3 contributors to share knowledge with the hard-core agency integrator specialists, facing and solving issues. The goal is that the community benefits from this event by having important issues solved and a better documented and predictable migration path.
CMS "Feature Freeze" Code Sprint
This is a generic code sprint for finishing loose ends of TYPO3 CMS 6.2 will also take place in Essen. It's the last sprint before feature freeze of the 6.2 LTS development phase, so we expect to get lots of goodies done.
Note that during these days the TYPO3 Smooth Migration Agency Sprint will be hosted at the same location. This is a good fit as it might provide some forms of exchange, but it does not mean that the events are connected in any way: This Code Sprint is for Active Contributors to work on the TYPO3 CMS Core Code prior to 6.2 Beta1 (feature freeze), while the Agency Sprint is meant to collaboratively solve agencies tasks of upgrading from 4.5 LTS to 6.2 LTS and while doing that sharing experiences and returning some know how to the TYPO3 Community.
TYPO3 CMS ACMEoS
Since the introduction of the <link record:tt_news:1553>Active Contributors we have had two real-live "Active Contributors Meetings" (short = ACME). To focus on the next month of important development, the Core Team will host a first "
ACMEoS" (Active Contributors Meeting over Skype)
As you see there is lots of activities planned for the next weeks. We invite you to join our initiatives either in person by participating in some of the code sprints or remotely, by helping us finalize this great product that will be TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS.
