TYPO3 Core

On December 11th, the TYPO3 9.5.2, 8.7.21 and 7.6.32 security releases were published. Some security fixes can be considered as breaking changes in order to apply strong security defaults. Please read the security bulletins carefully — manual adjustments concerning backward compatibility are described there as well. Read more

Unfortunately, regressions in recent TYPO3 v9 and v8 releases have been identified. Thus on December 14th, TYPO3 9.5.3 and 8.7.22 were released to fix these regressions. Read more

TYPO3 Association and TYPO3 Company

In 2019 all positions in the Board of the TYPO3 Association will be reelected. As the Expert Advisory Board will be disbanded and replaced by the Board, all eight positions in the Board will be elected by the members of the TYPO3 Association directly. Until 28 February 2019 anybody can nominate herself or himself for the vacant positions. Please consider your nomination! Read more

In early December, the Marketing Team met in rainy Venlo, in the Netherlands, with the goal to re-design, re-write, and publish typo3.org/cms and it’s sub-pages and they did it! They created new materials to help decision makers — and those who sell to or need to inform them — understand what makes TYPO3 CMS so brilliant in terms relevant to them. Read more

In December, all members of the TYPO3 Association were invited to state their opinion on the budget ideas for 2019. The budget committee will use the results of the poll to prepare the budget decisions. Read more

Upcoming Events in the Next Two Months

TYPO3 Ecosystem & Community

Tom Arnold published an article called “SMEgnorance” in which he elaborates on the problems which agencies with customers from the Small and medium-sized enterprises sector have with keeping the pace with the speed of TYPO3 LTS version upgrades. Read more

With the release of TYPO3 v9 LTS in October 2018, Michael Schams started working on the 3rd edition of the well-known TYPO3 Extbase book. This book is still the de-facto standard when it comes to extension development for TYPO3, and the new edition is coming in 2019! Read more

Development

The deprecation log is a handy feature of TYPO3 to learn what parts of your setup will not work anymore in future releases of TYPO3. In the recent version 9 there are important changes to the deprecation log and its handling. Read more

The TYPO3 Surf package is a complete automated deployment tool. It is best used, but by far not limited, to deploy TYPO3 CMS and Flow applications. To prepare the upcoming release of version 2.0.0 of Surf, the project documentation was revamped. Read more

The new routing feature of TYPO3 is one of the major achievements of the last TYPO3 LTS release. Routing for pages works out of the box, but the routing for extensions requires some manual configuration. This post by Marcus Schwemer gives an overview of the various possibilities. Read more

The new Extension Scanner included in TYPO3 v9 helps you analyze websites and applications to better plan and estimate your upgrades. Are you working with an older TYPO3 version? The scanner's standalone version also works with TYPO3 v6, v7, and v8. Read more

TYPO3 uses pages to organize the structure of a website. This leads to situations where you have a specific page for a feature, e.g. a page “Search” containing the plugin to display search results. Or a page containing the profile of the currently logged in user. Typically links to these pages are scattered all over the website, e.g. within some content elements, inside the page layout like header and within some plugins. In his blog post Daniel Siepmann explains how to provide the page uid for a specific page to all three kinds of “content”, where you typically need this information, with three lines of TypoScript. Pixelant has published its Product Manager extension EXT: pxa_product_manager on TER. Read more

The well know TYPO3 extension EXT:gridelements, which integrates the grid layout concept also to regular content elements is now available for TYPO3 9. Read more

EXT:iconcheck provides a TYPO3 backend module for listing all registered icons within your TYPO3 instance. Useful for integrators/developers who want to make their TYPO3 backends bright and shiny. Read more

EXT: seo_aspect_ratios is a simple TYPO3 extension which extends the table configuration array for EXT:seo (a TYPO3 CMS system extension) to related image fields. Read more
