With a slight delay here is the recap of what happened in August in the TYPO3 universe. Despite summer vacation season really a lot has happened! Happy reading!

    TYPO3 Core

    On August 21st, TYPO3 8.7.19 was released as bugfix release which again fixed a lot of bugs. Read more

    TYPO3 Association and TYPO3 Company

    By the end of June, the 3rd Quarterly Summit of the TYPO3 Association (QSA) took place in the headquarter of the TYPO3 Company in Düsseldorf, Germany. This meeting was held as a working sprint. The board of the TYPO3 Association set up smaller working groups to create concrete results. Read more

    The Supervisory Board of the TYPO3 company met on the 21st of June alongside the Developer Days in Düsseldorf. The TYPO3 community looked back on the first full year of operations of our company. Overall, the start was very successful. Instead of having a (planned) loss, we were able to create a small profit. Read more

    Events

    From October 5th-7th, the TYPO3camp Nantes, France will take place. The main language during the sessions is English. The participants also have the opportunity to take one of the TYP3 certification exams. Read more

    The TYPO3 Snowboard Tour (T3BOARD) is the oldest official TYPO3 event. Despite the name, it’s a ski and snowboard event! The booking for the next Snowboard Tour opened in August, and it will take place in Stubaital, Tyrol, Austria from 9-16 March 2019. Reserve your place soon! Read more

    TYPO3 Ecosystem & Community

    In the Hacked Website Report 2017 TYPO3 is listed with a very low percentage on all infected website platforms. Read more

    From 19th-24th July the typo3.org team met in Düsseldorf, overlapping the TYPO3 Developer Days. The focus for the sprint was mainly bug fixing and the introduction of necessary GDPR functions. Read more

    SEO is one of the most important things to get visitors to your website. TYPO3 has always given you a way to make your website search engine friendly, but you had to do it yourself. With the TYPO3 SEO initiative, more and more SEO features will be implemented in core. In his blog post, Richard Haeser will introduce you to the SEO initiative and its goals. Read more

    Website redirects are there to guide the website user automatically from an outdated page to a new one. Marcus Schwemer wrote a blog post about the new Redirects Module in TYPO3 9. Read more

    Each TYPO3 agency has its own set of tools and techniques for a productive agency work. The India based company NITSAN presents their 66 Tools & Techniques for Productive TYPO3 Agency, divided up into six categories. 

    With TYPO3 9 LTS just around the corner, the planning of the TYPO3 Release Parties has already started. Release Parties are a great opportunity to get to know other members of the great TYPO3 community and to learn about the new features in TYPO3 9.     In TYPO3's history there have been a lot of ups and downs, in any regard. In his blog post Andreas Fernandez tells you something about JavaScript in TYPO3: how was it back then, what's happening now, and what will maybe happen. Read more

    Claus Due (aka NamelessCoder) has kicked off a very minimalist Fluid ViewHelper documentation collection with JSON data renderings for programmatically traversing and retrieving information about a vendor, package, version, ViewHelper, or sub-namespace. Read more

    As a TYPO3 integrator or developer, you will log in into the same TYPO3 installations multiple times during the same day. There are different ways to prevent the need to login over and over again. Daniel Siepmann explains his TYPO3 auto login solution for this problem in this blog post. Read more

    The fifth layer of the TYPO3 performance onion is about the number of installed extensions and the TYPO3 CMS installation itself. In this blog post by Marcus Schwemer, you will learn how to gain more performance by using only the most necessary extensions and the latest TYPO3 core. Read more

    Extensions

    The TYPO3 extension EXT: fluid_components puts frontend developers in a position to create encapsulated components in pure Fluid. By defining a clear interface (API) for the integration, frontend developers can implement components independent of backend developers. The goal is to create presentational components which have no side effects and aren't responsible for data acquisition. The sole concern of a presentational component should be how things look.     Richard Haeser and MaxServ have published version 3 of EXT:yoast_seo, which is a major update with new features like sitemap.xml. Read more

    Sebastian Michaelsen has rewritten EXT:melon_images which simplifiesthe configuration and frontend rendering of images which use cropVariant, coverAreas and allowedAspectRatios. Read more

    If you want to add comments to EXT:news single views, you should have a look at EXT: ns_news_comments. It smoothly integrates comments, reply to comments, multi-level comment threads, and moderation to the news single view.
