Five days, 12 different agencies with 12 different real life 4.5 LTS projects to be migrated to 6.2, two CMS team members, a hotel of our own and as goals: identifying, documenting and solving pitfalls of migrating to TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS featuring use cases the active contributors have not experienced yet.
We are happy to announce another code sprint focusing on TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS. As rumor has it we will host a code sprint with a slightly different concept than usual. So what is the “TYPO3 Smooth Migration Sprint” all about? It’s five days, 12 different agencies with 12 different real life 4.5 LTS projects to be migrated to 6.2, two CMS team members, a hotel of our own and as goals: identifying, documenting and solving pitfalls of migrating to TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS featuring use cases the active contributors have not experienced yet.
We will meet in the Unperfekthaus Essen from Monday August 26th until Friday 30th and live and work in their hotel (http://www.wg-hotel.de/).
Every Gold/Platinum member of the TYPO3 association will be invited to join the event. As we only have twelve slots we will select the participating agencies to ensure a wide diversity in technologies and different obstacles within their projects.
As usual the TYPO3 CMS budget will cover some of the enabling costs. As opposed to other sprints we are not looking for further sponsors but ask the agencies that want to participate to buy a ticket for that event (additional sponsoring is also welcome as usual).
Monday and Tuesday will be dedicated to identifying problems while Wednesday to Friday will be reserved for solving these problems. We expect all participating developers to bring a virtual machine with their problematic project which he or she will talk about and share insights on the technology used (anonymized/dummy data is fine). We expect that the developer is familiar with how the agency implements TYPO3 and therefore ideally should be the one in charge of technical concepts, technical lead, or sth. similar.
From the current TYPO3 Active Contributors Christian Kuhn and Steffen Ritter will be there to ensure that already known issues will be identified early on as well as making sure the results of the sprint will be integrated into the release branch(es).
The sprint will have its own area in the Unperfekthaus with double rooms, sauna, several bathrooms and a kitchen with a coffee maker. We can use the kitchen, one office and additionally the rooms in the Unperfekthaus for group work. Breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as all non-alcoholic beverages are included. Dividing the costs 2:1 in favor of the participating agencies, each ticket will cost 350,- € including 19% vat.
Why should I participate as an agency? Your developer will receive first-level knowledge about upgrading problems and your personal hotspots in the upgrade process. Most probably issues will be duplicates and by solving them in a group, it will cost less then solving them alone.
Furthermore this sprint is the easiest way to give back to the community and at the same time get cheap "education" for your company.
