Dashboard Initiative

Summary

How to inform an user about important updates regarding the website? More and more people are asking for a dashboard to have the possibility to easily find important information. This initiative will focus on creating a dashboard for TYPO3 that is flexible and really integrated in the backend of TYPO3. The focus is not only on editors. Also integrators and administrators will have easy access to the most important information. Last but not least, also developers will benefit from the dashboard. It will be easy to add an own dataset to a widget so developers can show specific information to a user or even ship complete dashboards.

Goals

  • Launch EXT:dashboard for TYPO3 v9 as a non-core extension
  • Management of dashboards
  • Possibility to add available widgets to a dashboard
  • First widgets from within EXT:dashboard
    • Some widgets from 3rd party extensions
    • Investigate what changes in core are needed to seamlessly integrate into the backend of TYPO3
    • Ask users (editors, integrators, developers) what kind of widgets they would like to have
  • Permissions of dashboards / widgets
  • Possibility to restrict which widgets can be added to a certain position of the dashboard
  • Make EXT:dashboard a core extension
  • Add widgets to other core extensions (based on the information from phase 1)
  • Documentation for extension-developers how they can add their own widgets
  • Possibility to create wallboards of widgets
  • Drag / drop support
