TYPO3 Governance, Values, Policies, and Code of Conduct

Our obligations to one another

TYPO3’s community comes from all over the world. We are drawn to learning from others with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and skill sets. In general, we want our members to feel free to be themselves while behaving with consideration and respect toward one another. Our official values, guidelines, and code of conduct exist to help the community navigate gray areas and keep TYPO3 strong. Our policies keep members up to date on the technical issues—like how to use the TYPO3 trademark or handle GDPR issues.

Many of our policy and governance documents are maintained in the TYPO3 Policy Directory.

Empower, Enable, Equalize!

The TYPO3 Project's Vision, Mission, and Purpose

Having a clear vision, mission, and purpose for the project means we can have clear visions, missions, and purposes for other fields of responsibility as well. Those form the basis for strategic decisions.

Community Values

TYPO3’s values are community-sourced and enforced. We foster a culture of contribution, respect, and collaboration—and we have a good time while we’re at it! As a tech product, we prioritize our code quality, security, knowledge-sharing, and meaningful innovations, always with an eye toward our end users. Finally, as an organization, we believe in transparent communication, reliability, fair business models, and mentorship. Human, technological, and business values go hand-in-hand in creating a cohesive TYPO3 project.

Code of Conduct

To respect each other is to respect the TYPO3 as a whole. TYPO3’s Code of Conduct defines six basic rules and advises community members on how to make everyone feel welcome and included. We also provide a resource for handling Code of Conduct violations and answers to frequently asked questions that dives into the nuances of each rule and guidance.

Contribution and Engagement with Open Source

Open source is not just a license; it’s an ethos. As a 100% open source project, TYPO3 is committed to collaboration with other open source products and giving back to the open source community. By sharing standards, security best practices, and guidelines, we take part in organizations that strengthen the open source ecosystem.

TYPO3 Brand and Trademark

TYPO3 is a trademarked brand name with a standardized color, style, and logo. Others can use our trademark when promoting their use of our software. We restrict our trademark use in certain cases— in domains, ad campaigns, and official brand connections, for example. Not sure whether you can use our trademark? Some uses require prior permission from the TYPO3 Association.

TYPO3 Association Policy for Committees and Official Teams

Teams are self-formed groups of three or more people with a leader, clearly stated goals, tasks, and reporting responsibilities. Committees have similar responsibilities, but are created by the TYPO3 Association Board and report to the General Assembly. The requirements are outlined in an official policy.

How the TYPO3 Community Makes Decisions

In addition to becoming a TYPO3 Association member, community members can participate in the TYPO3 decision-making process by joining a team, committee, team leader group, or initiative. Higher-level decisions impacting multiple groups are made by the Team Leader Group or the TYPO3 Association Board.
