Syllabus

For the TCCE, the Certification Team publishes a syllabus that defines required knowledge for a certified editor. The syllabus is a checklist for trainers and trainees by describing required educational objectives. This syllabus is also available in German.

The editor knows

  • what a CMS is and about the advantages it offers
  • about the separation of content and layout/design
  • about the responsibility and delimitation of the editor’s role
  • the technical requirements needed for a proper usage of TYPO3 as an editor

The editor has basic understanding and knowledge about

  • Web accessibility
  • SEO (On-Page)
  • Media formats (JPG, GIF, PNG, AVI, MPEG...)
  • Copyright and data protection

The editor

  • knows the difference between the Frontend and the Backend
  • is able to login and logout of the TYPO3 backend
  • is able to view and edit his user profile settings
  • knows where to change his password
  • knows about password security

Backend

The editor

  • knows the structure of the backend and the functionality of:
    • Module bar (1st column)
    • Page tree and file tree (2nd column)
    • Working area (3rd column)
    • Toolbar (Logout, Favorites, Search)
    • Context bar (save, edit, new element, …)
  • knows about the responsiveness of the TYPO3 Backend
  • knows about Backend users and Backend user groups that may be assigned to editors
  • knows about the backend search functions for files, pages and content
  • knows about the existence and purpose of workspaces in TYPO3

Modules

The editor knows in general about

  • the module “Page”, to organize content elements on pages
  • the module “List” to organize data records
  • the module “Filelist” to organize files
  • the module “Forms” to organize forms
  • ...and other modules, that are relevant for an editor

Backend

The editor

  • knows the page tree and its functionality
  • is able to create, edit, enable, disable, move and delete pages
  • knows about the page properties
  • knows the different page types and their functionality
  • knows the meaning and function of the page cache, and how to clear it in TYPO3

 

Frontend

The editor

  • knows the correlation between the page tree and the navigation menu in the frontend
  • has knowledge about the possibility to view the frontend in different responsive views in the backend
  • knows how to get a page preview (new browser window, allow Popups,...)

The editor is able to

  • navigate and organize files in the file tree in a structured way
  • organize directories and files and knows about the “extended view”
  • figure out if files are being used / referenced in the system
  • edit meta data

The editor

  • is able to organize typical page content elements and knows their properties
  • knows the difference between the direct file upload in a content element via drag&drop and the file upload in the module “Filelist”
  • has knowledge about the Rich Text Editor (RTE)
  • knows about the cropping function, when using images in content elements
  • knows how to embed videos

The editor

  • is able to create, copy, move, activate (hide), deactivate (un-hide) and delete data records
  • knows how to edit several data fields of content elements simultaneously (single table view)
  • is able to change the listview (selection of data fields, amount of data records) 
  • is able to manage several data records simultaneously by using the clipboard
  • knows the recycler and is able to restore deleted data records and content elements
  • has basic knowledge about versioning  in TYPO3

The editor has knowledge

  • about what an extension is
  • about how to use Plugins as content elements

Access

The editor knows about the "Access" module and is able to restrict access for usergroups for both pages and content elements.

Recycler

The editor knows the recycler and is able to restore deleted objects.

Sorting function

The editor is able to sort the page tree by utilising "Sorting functions" from within the "Functions" backend module.

Search and find

The editor knows how to find files, pages, and content elements.

The editor is able to

  • switch between the views “Columns” and “Languages” in module “Pages”
  • create translations for pages
  • translate content elements  (“free mode” and “connected mode”)
  • translate data records
  • translate meta data of translated pages (title, description, etc.)
  • use the translation view in the module “List”
  • translate the meta data of files
  • work with the module Info / Localization Overview
