More than three years after the release of TYPO3 v7 LTS, this version has reached end-of-life, but we have some special treats in for you before we're shutting down this version. Additionally, TYPO3 v8 is now in priority bugfix mode, and TYPO3 v9 receives regular maintenance releases.

In November 2015, the TYPO3 community released TYPO3 v7 LTS - a groundbreaking version with an endless list of improvements, that brought TYPO3 CMS back on track in the CMS market. A few highlights:

  • PHP 7.0 compatibility
  • A fresh and unified Backend Editor experience
  • Fluid-based Content Rendering ("fluid_styled_content")
  • A full responsive editing interface
  • A vast performance bump compared to TYPO3 v6.2

With TYPO3 v7 we also introduced the sprint release concept and the 3 - year - LTS release cycle. TYPO3 v7 is a perfect example of a true community effort.

In the three years since then, the TYPO3 community has launched TYPO3 v8 LTS and TYPO3 v9 LTS. Now is the time to shout out a big THANK YOU to everyone to made this version possible - and then to say goodbye and to drop support for TYPO3 v7 LTS.

One More Time: A Last TYPO3 v7 LTS Release

There are however a few things we want to mention:

We are going to release a final TYPO3 v7 LTS bugfix version on December 11, 2018. This will bring PHP 7.3 compatibility (expected release on December 6, 2018). This will also mean there is no free-of-charge TYPO3 version anymore that works with PHP 5.x - as PHP 5.6 will reach its end of life on December 31, 2018.

After this final release, the TYPO3 core maintainers will not accept any more changes to this code base (git branch “TYPO3_7-6”), and will not fix issues overcome in later versions.

However, just because TYPO3 v7 is not supported by the TYPO3 core maintainers anymore, you can still continue to run it - as TYPO3 offers the “Extended LTS program for v7 LTS” as well, which will start effectively on December 12, 2018.

Further TYPO3 v8 LTS and TYPO3 v9 LTS Support

TYPO3 v8 LTS has now turned into “priority bugfix” mode. Specifically, we only backport functionality relevant for security or browser support into this version (git branch “TYPO3_8-7”) from now on. There will be no regular “planned” maintenance releases, as we decide depending on the issues and gravity when a release is necessary.

For TYPO3 v9 LTS, the most up-to-date and reliable version, we provide regular bugfix releases with a maintenance release plan you can mark in your calendars:

We love TYPO3 v9 LTS and recommend everybody to keep their PHP and TYPO3 versions updated.
