#2 Create PDF version of DocBook manuals

Introduction
From the beginning of the TYPO3 5.0 project we have written all documentation using the XML-based DocBook format. Because we paid attention on using the right tags for the right content, it is now much easier to render different formats out of the source documents.
We currently have a basic HTML version of "The Guide" but many people ask for a PDF version. Because the TYPO3 Extension Repository (TER) also uses DocBook internally, a transformation created for the 5.0 project could probably also be used for other documentation.
Task Description
The goal is to automatically render PDF versions of our documentation on our server each time the DocBook sources change. The PDF rendering script would be invoked by a PHING build script which we execute each time an updated version of the documentation is committed via SVN.
We suggest the following steps:
- Get familiar with the DocBook sources of "The Guide".
- Agree on a design and layout for the documenation with Rasmus Skjoldan, TYPO3's design lead
- Create a PDF rendering solution we can use at 5-0.dev.typo3.org
