About this project

This project has been initiated by Robert Lemke and Karsten Dambekalns in march 2006. Since then some enthusiastic developers have contributed ideas and joined the team. Check out the Teams page to know more about the people involved.

Probably the best way to get an overview of the idea of the project is watching some slides about TYPO3 5.0 from the TYPO3 conferences and Developer Days.

Developers who'd like to get a feeling for the new approach and play with TYPO3 5.0 already, should check out FLOW3, the framework for 5.0, and visit our development website which contains all the code and documentation.

Brand new architecture

The big goal is to create a future proof version 5.0 of TYPO3 with a solid and brand new architecture which still feels like TYPO3. After the initial planning and coding phase we decided to divide TYPO3 5.0 into two projects: FLOW3 (the framework) and the TYPO3 CMS. The TYPO3 Content Repository (TYPO3CR) is yet another project on its own - but of course it goes hand in hand with the other development.

Inspiring people to have their own mind

For many people, TYPO3 5.0 stands for all they ever wanted to change in TYPO3 and therefore the expectations are high and ideas for features and architecture are diverse. The success of such a big project is highly depending on the consistency of the concepts being developed and therefore cannot be a democratic process in all areas. However, we depend on the feedback of the many TYPO3 developers and invite you to discuss your ideas in our newsgroup.

While there will be hundreds of smaller tasks which will hopefully be taken care of by the skilled developers of the TYPO3 community, we currently - in the initial phase of the project - are mostly in need of contributors who see the tasks themselves and come with fresh ideas and loads of motivation. If you match that profile and would like to join the team, just report in our mailing list!
