Today, the TYPO3 community released the second alpha version of TYPO3 4.6. We continue on track to reach the goal of releasing the next major release of our CMS, TYPO3 4.6 --rebase, in October 2011. This alpha version is a "developer snapshot" to show the progress so far.
What happened so far?
The work on the next release continues as we now approach the most productive phase in our journey. The teams are settled and are now much more accustomed to the new workflows introduced by our move from Subversion to Git and Gerrit.
The release manager, Xavier Perseguers, continue the work in coordinating the teams and individuals working actively in the core development. The release manager holds weekly meetings together with the TYPO3 community manager (Ben van 't Ende), the TYPO3 4.5 team leaders (Ernesto Baschny and Steffen Kamper) and the core team leaders.
During the next weeks we expect major improvements for the next alpha3 release, because of the upcoming developer days that will influence the development:
- TYPO3 Developer Days 2011 in Sursee, Switzerland: The numerous workshops will let the community actively work together on finalizing new features, just in time for the feature freeze.
The release plan for 4.6, the schedule and the planned projects are detailed in the project wiki on forge.
For details about this particular release and the current progress, please read up on:
For the first alpha an introductionpackage was build, which allows testing the new features right away on a fresh installation. Experienced users can of course opt to upgrade an existing installation to the new 4.6alpha2 version, but keeping in mind that this is still a snapshot of our development so far, and more changes and fixes will be included in further releases.
