After installing the extension you have to specify a path where the specialelements will be installed to. If you want to edit/modify the elements later on, it's recommended to use a directory in /fileadmin/.

Specialelements cannot be installed via the TYPO3 extension manager. They need to be installed with the specialelements BE-module.
