Project finished
With the release of TYPO3 4.0, the project has been finished successfully. People reported over 130 gremlins, which have mostly been fixed. We are proud to say that backend responsibility and usability have improved a lot in the new TYPO3 release.
See the following list for detailed information about zapped gremlins:
consistency
- possibility to add new users in BE user admin
- empty categories in "new content element wizard" are not shown anymore
- RTE wizard has save and close buttons now
- file -> list module is sorted by default
- highlighted nav_frame entry and the current are consistently in sync now
usability issues
- "page header" renamed to "page properties"
- tabulators work in textareas, including auto-indenting - makes template editing a lot easier
- correct icon for "not in menu" pages
- possibility to disable javascript confirmations per category
- relogin JS popup doesn't reappear when clicking the cancel button on alert
- password form in the install tool is automatically focussed
- BE can be simplified even more with TSconfig
- default number of upload forms in file upload module can be configured
major adaptions
- gifbuilder supports truecolor
- UTF8 now works in all JS popups, and charset fixes all around the core, f.e. in htmlmail
- links to timer-stopped or otherwise access-restricted pages are not displayed anymore
- ajax for clickmenu popups - major speed improvements, creation of ajax library
- alt_shortcut.php has been redesigned (e.g. takes access restrictions into account)
- logfile writing in apache compatible style
- template support in indexed search
minor adaptions
- new lockSSL option like sourceforge - user returns to normal mode after ssl login
- small typoscript default improvements:
no hardcoded p-tags inside table cells anymore (css_styled_content)
header with date and link now wraps properly
fontColor has the type stdWrap now (in GIFBUILDER) - override all adminPanel settings with TSconfig
- xhtml-cleaning doesn't filter comments anymore
- TCAdefaults recognized by "new pages" wizard
- files can be copied into the same directory as the source file (they get a number appended in this case)
- clearCache works now when deleting pages/tt_content (including TCEMAIN.clearCacheCmd)
- when admin uses "switch user" in the user admin module, he returns to admin mode when logging off again (SU-Mode)
- t3lib_div::writeFile doesn't change file permissions without need anymore
- localization of "page is being generated" message
- visibility settings for any records are shown in their icon title
- matchWildcard in typo3 conditions support regexes now

What is a Gremlin?
"Gremlin" is a symbolic description for all those bugs and usability issues which nag you while working or developing with TYPO3. This project is about fixing the most requested ones.
Call for Gremlins has closed
October 21, 2005. Thanks to everybody who contributed to the list of Gremlins. We hope we have received the most wanted Gremlins and will start working on them next.
