Overview

TYPO3 v4's marker based templating did not have any significant changes within the last few years. Features like loops, object orientation support, or control structures are not possible to do within the template engine - instead, one needs to write a lot of PHP code to do this.

It would be beneficial for TYPO3 v4 to have a new, clean and extensible template engine. Fluid is the new standard template engine for TYPO3 v5, and it would be really helpful to have it available in TYPO3 v4 as well. This includes two main goals:

Additionally, having Fluid in TYPO3 v4 will ease the transition to TYPO3 v5 further.

Impact on TYPO3

The template engine is a basic building block of a CMS - thus, a lot of people work with it during their daily work. Fluid as new template engine would thus be beneficial to almost all TYPO3 developers, making them more productive in their daily work.
