Although the TYPO3 developers clearly write down all changes, it is not very easy to understand and convenient for people who just want to know the interesting changes. This document aims to give you a short sum-up.
This document is made for all TYPO3 users who would like to have a short overview of what has changed in the new TYPO3 release version 4.0.2. This is a maintenance release, it does not contain any feature enhancements.
For latest information on this release which could not be covered by this article, please see [1].
The overall release workflow has been documented and is now published in an article at typo3.org [2].
Upgrading from previous versions of the 4.0 branch (4.0 or 4.0.1) does not require any database changes, so you can simply exchange the sources and you're done. However, in order to benefit from the new and updated static_tsconfig_help tables which ship with 4.0.2, you need to go to the Install Tool -> Database Analyser -> Import.
Upgrading from releases previous to 4.0 should be straight forward as well, just follow the instructions of the Upgrade wiki page [3].
