An old violin was a subject at an auction. "10.000! 5.000! 2.000! - anyone?". No one responded, no one wanted the apparently worthless violin. Then a man moved forward in the crowd. He went to the podium, grabbed the violin, blew the dust off, tuned its strings, laid it to his chin. He began to play and the most beautiful tones filled the room. Everyone was in awe. Then a whisper spread in the crowd; "It's the great master, it is Paganini!"
Christianity is essentially not about a romantic setting in Bethlehem with baby-Jesus in a manger. It's about a God who has a great love and passion for everyone of his created human beings. He has placed a unique potential in everyone of us. Whether we are old and dusty or shiny modern designs he can play our strings to produce the most beautiful music.
I heard this story last sunday in church and it hit me deeply. I don't feel like a particular rusty violin. I feel like a modern, intelligent and self-sufficient man who can write his own autobiography. Yet, I believe something extraordinary has come from my wish of letting God play my strings with TYPO3. God still leaves the initiative to me, but it gives me great comfort and reduces the fear of failing to know he will tune me when the strings produce a false note. All I need to do is make myself available. My greatests wish is to be His masterpiece, not my own.
Next year we take a milestone step into a new part of the symphony. We need more instruments to play together in the TYPO3 Association. We cannot rely on solo parts anymore in order to complete the work. And in authentic internet style we invite the crowd for interaction.
Are you only listening at the moment? Are you in awe of the masters on the scene? And have you lost your own ambitions after seeing the others play? Well, please don't! I believe a unique range of notes are waiting to be played by you in the TYPO3 symphony. We might still get a decent result if we miss of few of those, but not all of them! So feel free to take the small step up on the stage and play your part!
A Merry Christmas to all you and CU soon in the snow.
